"Try to remember now;"
Miku was an ordinary girl who lived in a little village not far from a town. It was on the other side of the forest, and she always dreamed of going there to become an actress. One day, she received a letter, calling her to town for an audition at a school for talented young actors. So she went, but got lost in the woods. A storm began to roll in, so she stopped by the mansion on the edge of town and asked to stay the night. Sympathizing with the girl, they allowed her to--and bumped their casual drinking into a full-on party.
The maid, to give the wine more of a kick, drugged it. Everyone partied and had fun, and the girl was shown to a room for the nigh. However, not too long before midnight, she awoke. Still drunk and disoriented from the drugged wine, she noticed two figures in her room and freaked out. She frantically searched around and noticed the sharp hands of the clock, ripping them off. She turned to the figures and backed away, out of the room, yelling.
The others woke, coming out into the hall blearily, and observed. And then they saw her back up into the railing and flip right over it, falling toward the first floor. They all rushed and tried to catch her, the butler leaning over the railing and unable to stop her. She hit the floor and seconds later, the clock hand embedded itself in her skull, killing her. Fearing how this would look, knowing they likely wouldn't be believed, they hid her body below in the family crypt.
However, instead of the night ending, all in the house were drawn into another world--the world of a play. Miku couldn't accept her death, as sudden and strange as it was, and so refused to simply pass on. So everyone was forced to relive the night over and over. And the first night, trying to end it according to the true events, they killed her. But the night started over, and no one realized that the Villager happened to not exactly be the girl who died.
In truth, Miku had split into two people in the Night--the Villager, who would relive the night, unaware of what she had been through, and the Mastermind, the Miku who remembered everything and refused to accept the story as it was written. The Mastermind could not directly interfere, and the Villager was unaware it was a play.
The next night, as it repeated, and they once more killed the Villager. But they began to realize this didn't work. So they began to try keeping everyone alive. Only Miku suddenly went crazy as the night went on, and killed everyone else. Mastermind applauded, beginning the night again, as it still wasn't a valid ending. So everything continued through a few more Nights where they all died save for Miku, until they began questioning where the missing page went.
One night, Miku dropped the letter. She became aware of the previous nights and instead tried to find an alternate route. Meanwhile, the other seven found the letter and inserted the blank page--causing time to warp. The next night, everyone was aware of everything they could be aware of, and everything went wrong.
The Mastermind, finally realizing there was no other way out of this, began to move. While the other seven contemplated capturing and removing the Villager from play to bring in a ninth person, the Villager moved and sought a way to bring them out of the false reality. She ran and ran and eventually came across the Mastermind, who smiled and, when questioned, told her other self that she had the key to the end in her pocket. Realizing she meant the letter that sent her out this way, the Villager ran to tell the others.
however, she instead overheard the plan to "tame that girl," "bring her back from the grave" and "switch the real and the fake." Thinking she as the fake, she ran in, to the shock of the other seven, and ran for the clock, stealing its hands. They panicked and raced after her as she ran down the stairs to the crypt, where she locked herself in. Upon opening that coffin, she gained the last piece she needed: her own corpse.
she cut her own wrist to provide blood to write the blank page, and just a few drops of blood saw words appearing: "The Everlasting Night is fading away, here comes a new dawn." The doors burst open, and the seven screamed and tried to stop her--finding her with the clock hand raised over herself. With tears in her eyes, she smiled back at them.
Suddenly, she ran the knife through her skull, and they were all transported back to the moment of her death when she fell over the railing. All relived that moment, with the Mastermind applauding from her collapsing realm before she rejoined with her full self and died.
"How did it all begin?"
"A letter on a stormy night;"
"Who was it who was betrayed...?"
"Take the "truth" you wanted gone," "And hide it in the coffins..."
